Tecnoloy and archaeology

I have never been a tech girl, indeed I hate all about tecnology and pc`s…but when I entered to archaeology I had learning a lot the technological tools. There are many usefull tools in the archaeology, and it is using by the archaologists in differents contexts. For example, when we must go to fieldwork we need to know where are we…in these case, we used the GPS.
We had a subject where the teacher touch us to use different tools for the fieldwork…some of this tools are: the GPS and the “station”; besides we learned to use some computers programs. Really, I did not learn so much, because I needed to know math and many strangers things xD…so I suffered in this subject. Using the programs computers in general is easy…but when I need to make calculations…I am the worse!!!! I think that I only learned “to read” maps in this subject (it calls SIG: Geographical Information System), but it could be worse.
On the other hand, the GPS is a nice tool. It is very simple and you do not need to know a lot of tecnology, and some cases it is easier that a cell phone. This machine indicated the coordenates in that you localized, so it is very important…and I learned that I never must forget to load its batteries or forget it (I said that, because I lost in a fieldwork and it was horrible!).
Well, despite that I hate the technological tools, I must admit that it is very importants in my discipline (and all the works). Because it helps to do our work safely, besides we can obtain more information of the archaeology record when we used this technological advances. In this sense, in the archaeology the tecnology has been uil for knowing more about our past.
Finally, I want to suggest to all the people that they like the archaeology that they need to keep up with the technological tools and computer programs. But, they must not worry if they do not understand about this things, because they always can learn. In all the careers there are technological progress every day…the important is that we do not stop learning.

this's halloween, this's halloween...everybody screams!!!!!!!!! =D

Hi!!!, I am going to speak you about Halloween, that is my favourite celebration. Halloween is a celt festivity celebrates 31th october, and it is new year of this culture.
The irish people passed on this tradition to United States in 1840.But, above not means that it celebrated of this momento, Halloween is a very antiquity festivity that the people celebrates this festivity since a lot of time,
During night’s Halloween the children uses costumes and they go out and ask candies. When the children ask for candies the says: “treak or treating”. Today all the people celebrates this party (in all the world xD)…the adults use costumes too and they go to parties, but they do not ask for candies…
On the other hand, the goth people enjoys Halloween too. I think that it happens because they like the black colour and the terror xDD…well, this is a bias, but I want to say that Halloween is soooo veery popular!!! (who do not like the candies? xD)
I like Halloween because I love the celt cultura their worldview is nice =)!. Besides I like use costumes!!, it is very funny and Halloween is a great excuse =D!
When I was a Little girl I never celebrated Halloween, because my parents thought that we must not to celebrate because it was not a chilean tradition. Then I grow up, and I began to go to parties’s Halloween =P, and today I still celebrate this festivity…the last year I went to a party in a “Club Hipico”, but it was not funny =(.
This year I did not to go to some place because I must to do my homeworks, and I was very angry!!!… we can not get fun all the time! =(
Well, I hope that you enjoyed Halloween!! (not like me xD).

I wanna be a hunter-gatherer =)

The notice that I choose, speaks us about the hunter-gatherer’s style life. According to the author, these populations lived in Europe before 6000 years ago (and I must add that in some places still are hunters-gatherers as Amazonas). In the notice we can read some features of this kind of population as its “love” of free- living, and the respect that this persons had (and has) for the environment =).
Besides, the author speaks about of the resulting changes of leaving this style-life. When the hunters-gatherers incorporated the agriculture they missed their mobility. For this reason the humans began to have more diseases, and the population concentrated in small places…this is the first step for the beginning of the pollution ¬¬ (because the trash began to accumulate and this type of things). Obviously these things not affected them immediately (well, this changes transformed the population’s culture and worldview), but today we can see the consequences of the horrible act to incorporate the agriculture xD. I have always thinked that the humans became farmers was the worst thing that it could occur (it was the bad seed xD), because whit this the differences between the humans increased…and then appeared the social classes and all the history that we know =P. I do not say that the hunters-gatherers do not have differences between them, there are different roles but not in the same manner as we understand…
I consider important this notice, because the author shows a way that archaeology can be useful for the present people not only in scientific aspect. The author calls to pay attention in like this population cared the environment and respected the other living beings =).

See you!

Suni around the world =)

Hi!, today I am going to speak you about my hobby!
Well, there are many things that I like to do as reading a good book, listening and playing music (rock, jazz, blues and more =P), making sport and other things, but if I must choose I think that my hobby is to travel. I do not know if to travel is a hobby, but it is something that I really enjoy and I do it when I have free time =P.
Traveling is something that I do every now and then, because I study archaeology so I need to go to field work…that is so good, because I work and I practice my hobby in at same time xD (many persons could envy me xD). On that side, when I go to field work, I do not need many things...I have my backpack (and the energy xD), and I am ready =P.
When I go to travel in my free time, it is more complicated, because besides of my backpack and the energy, I need so much money!!!...the cash is always scarce in a student’s pocket so it is a great problem!!!, but I have the solutions in the hobby 1313!!! I pay for my trips with the field work =P…so I do not suffer xD.
Other thing that is important is whom to travel with…in general I make the trips with my cousin and other friends, but I do not have problems if I could do the trips with other persons…really, I enjoy more the journeys if I could do them with someone special =)…but, it is not possible for now =(.
Finally, I began to travel with my friends when I was fifteen (approximately)…since this age, I do not travel with my parents, because we have different tastes…and they do not like going on trips (as much as me) xD

Greetings!!!

Diving with whales =)

All the people think that my favorite pet is the cat, because before I liked to miaow…well I do not know if I liked it, but I used to do it =P. Even so, I think that the cats are pretty pets, they are loving…but they have a problem, sometimes the cats are treacherous and they can scratch and it hurts xD.
For these reasons there is another animal that I love, it is the whale!!!, but I do not like all the whales, my favorite is the blue whale =D, because there are other whales as the killer whale that is very aggressive. I think that the blue whale is so harmonious, when I see a blue whale swimming (in youtube xD) I feel so happy, but at the same time I want to cry. Besides when the blue whales submerged into the sea you can see their queues and this view is beautiful!!! Other things that I love about the blue whale are its songs; there are many studies about the whales’s song…some scientists think that it is a communication medium, and it is very moving =).
I have always wanted to see a blue whale, and I would like to go scubadiving with it =D, I think that would make me feel free, but I think that is not possible =( (for now xD). However I will travel to the south (someday =P) and I will be able to see many blue whales, and then I will be able to die happily =).

Welcome to Santiago!!(8)

Santiago is the Chile’s capital…it’s a noisy and polluted city xD, however it could be very funny. There are so many things that the tourists (and we also =P) can do for enjoying. If they want to go to parties they can go to the discotheques or pubs. If the tourists have cultural and intellectual interests they can visit many museums about history, art and archaeology of Chile. Besides there are many parks in Santiago, where the people can practice sport and other outdoor activities (if the foreigner tourists have respiratory diseases I do not suggest to practice sport in Santiago, because it has smock =P).
Well, my top five Santiago’s places to visit are:
First, I think that Santa Lucia hill is a cute place; it has many trees and different entertainments, the people visitors can “climb” to the peak, where there is a viewpoint (you can see everything Santiago from this place). Finally it has a Japanese Park that could be very romantic xD.
Second places that are necessary to know are the museums and the National Library. In these places always there are exhibitions very interesting about many topics.
If the foreigner tourists want to drink the better “earthquake” (a drink with pineapple ice cream) of Santiago, they must visit to “La Piojera”!!! it is a popular bar located near of Central Market, in this place they can have a good time with their friends.
In the fourth place, I think that before or after to go to “La Piojera” (the better option is after =P), any tourist must eat a seafood platter in the Central Market…there are different prices, but the most important is that the food is delicious!
Finally, the Parade Ground is a place interesting, because in front of it is Santiago’s Cathedral, Chile’s Post Headquarters and the Santiago’s Municipality. Besides in this place the tourist will see many pigeons xD!!

greetings!!!!

Let's go to Morrocoooo!!! =D

The country that I would like to visit is Morroco, because it always seems very nice. I have seen pictures and movies about Morroco, and the landscape is beautiful. I like the dunes and the desert, so I think that it is a good choice to visit. I do not know so much about Morroco –besides that it must be wonderful xD- but important information is that it is an Islamic country, and it is located in Africa xD.
Well, if I could visit Morroco I would visit the desert and of course I will try to know all about Morroco’s culture. I would like to go with somebody else =), because I want to make a long journey, and to make it alone must be boring =P.
I don’t know if I would like to live in Morroco, I think that I need to know it, because it’s not the same to stay in a place short time to live in this place =S. Despite the above, I think that working in Morroco as an archeologist must be fun, for this reason I don’t rule out the possibility xD.
Finally, I get excited with the idea!, I have always wanted to go to Morroco, and I hope that it happens soon xD!

The past semester =(

The last semester was very tiring because I studied a lot. I had nine subjects so I did not have time to do all the things. However I learned so many things about my discipline that are very important for my development as archaeologist. I think that the most important was the laboratory work; I had to learn to analyze pottery. I have never liked the pottery, but I think that is something that I must know how to do. I had other subjects, but I did not enjoy them; really that semester was very boring, and I hated it =P. Instead I like this semester!, it has many interesting subjects, so the things will be better!
Well, on the other side when I think about the free time I get depressed. I did not have free time in the last semester and it was horrible! In the beginner of that semester I entered to yoga, but then I did not have time to go, so I leaved it. When I leaved yoga I felt very sad, in general I was distressed, but this moment was worse. Today the things are not so bad, that horrible semester finished, I passed all the subjects and the best part is that I have free time!
I have fewer subjects in this semester, so I think that I will be many things that I had to leave in the first semester of this year. I will come back to yoga, and I hope to have free time to go out with my friends.

This is the end!!! =D

I have never liked to write about my life in internet I feel incomfortable when I must do it, for this reason I think that it was not a funny activity. I did not enjoy to publish my favourite activities or the things that I like and think, on the contrary it was very difficult, because I never know what can I say and I always count the words that I needed to finish. When I read a blog I enjoy it, but to write it, is not the same.
Although I do not like the blogs, this activity has helped me to improve my english, because I must to write every week, which makes me to practice regularly.
Well, I don't know if the blog is the better method for to learn english, but it is not so bad xD. I think that it has some disadvantages like write about myself, but it is good too, because I can practice my english without to be in a class. Besides, it is a way in that we can help us to improve our english (when we read the posts of our classmates or they read our posts, we can correct them or they can correct us). Due above and despite that I hate the blogs, I think that is a good form to practice out of class.
Finally, I will attemp to write more in a blog, because it could be funny when you accustom =P
I hope that you had enojoyed xD

The Eye of God

Maybe it sounds trite, but one of my favourite photographs is “The eye of God”, which was taken by the Hubble Spacial Telescope in 2004. There are more pictures of this that have been taken by other telescopes as the Very Large Telescope of European Southern Observatory and Wide Field Imager of chilean Observatory La Silla.

This image shows us to the Helix Nebula (also known as NGC 7293 by the scientists), which is ubicated in the constellation of “Aquarius”, it is about 700 light-years from The Earth. Helix is a planetary nebula that formed in the end of a star’s life like the sun and it was discovered by Karl Ludwig Harding before 1824 (probably).

This picture is very famous, and many people love it. I like it because when I see it I feel so small, and it makes me to think that life is so fragile, this because we could dissappear in any time like that star. On the other hand, I think it is a beatiful image, the form taken is amazing. Their colours are impressive too, justly it calls “The eye of God” and really it seems as somebody looks at us.

When I see phenomena like this I think that we don´t need science fiction to see incredible things, just enough seek in the real world. Besides, it makes me ask how many things are there that we can’t to imagine.

Well, I don’t know if this photograph is the most wonderful of the history, probably it isn’t, but I suppose that “The eye of God” is a image that nobody will forget.
I hope like it!!

Camiña =D

I love to travel, for this reason I have gone to many places, but my favourite trips had been in Chile. Our country is a beatiful place, and the anthropology has allowed that I visited many interesting sites lately.
My last travel was at Camiña and I think that it had been my better experience. Camiña is a small town ubicated in the north of Chile, in the “Primera Región de Tarapacá”, it is about five hours away by bus from Iquique. This village is localized in a ravine at about 3000 meters of high.

I did this trip with my classmates and teacher for the Andean Etnology course and we camped in a place near of Camiña. We stayed seven days in Camiña and one day in Iquique, in where we enjoyed to much too =) (when we traveled to north is a “ritual” that we stayed at least one day in Iquique =P)

Well, I think that Camiña is a special place because has a wonderfull landscape. Besides it is caracterized by to be habited for indigenous communities that belonging to the aymará etnic group. Due to the above, Camiña has many archaeological sites like petroglyphs and inka´s huacas (sacred mountains); so it was very common to find pottery fragments of different periods.

The purpose of this travel was to realize about “Corpus Christi”ceremony. This is a party that syncretizes catholic and indigenous beliefs; one family of the community organizes the festival for one year, in which there are dances, bands, lots of free food and free liquor and animal sacrifices (llamas and lambs) in order to “pay” to saints and Pachamama.

Well, I hope that you can visit to Camiña someday too!

Devil Presley! yeah!!!

I like many styles of music and bands, so it is hard to choose just one, but if i had to do it, i would choose to Devil Presley.
Devil Presley (DP) is a chilean hard rock band, but also they play hardcore and other types of music. They are influenced by bands as Misfits, Motorhead, Machine Head and many others.

This band formed in 1998, and Rod Presley, Joe Presley, Jesse Presley and Chris Presley participated in the project. DP started playing in some bars of Santiago as “La Batuta”, “Laberinto” and “Zoom” and then they traveled around the country. Besides, this musical group also received the support of the “Futuro” radio and “Rockaxis” magazine. Finally a feature of DP is that they have songs in spanish and english.

Their first disc was called “Hell Rock” (1999), its songs most famous are “Hellhorns” and “General Lee”. The second disc of the band is “Lo Errazuriz Tornado” (2003), and some of the songs that I like are “Barfly” and “Tiempos de Niebla”. “Round 3”, is the name of their third album, and it is the better and the most known =D, I love its songs, among my favorites are: “Perro Rabioso”, “Aguardiante”, “Tranquila” and “DP 4 life”. They released their last album in the last month, its name is “Relámpago”, but I have not heard yet =(, although I don’t care because I think that it will be cool!

Well, I like Devil Presley because it is chilean, besides its lyrics are very funny, and I identify with some them. The music of this band gives me energy and I enjoy it. When I feel sad I hear DP and I can laugh again =P

So I leave a video, and I hope that it will like =D

The Keyboard =D

Hi!,

I like many technology items like mp3, notebook, gps....but I going to speak you about my favourite: the keyboard.

I got my first keyboard when I was a little child (I don't remember the age xD), I was learning to play piano, and my dad did not want to buy a real piano, unless the activity was serious xD.

Ahm...I use the keyboard to practice some songs when I'm not in my home which happens in the summer. I've also thought I can use it to play in metro satations with my friends, and I could earn some extramoney too!

Today, I have little time, and I can't play the keyboard so much; moreover I prefer the piano when I'm in my home (or in some place where there's one)...so usually, I play the keyboard when I go to vacations outside of Santiago =P.

Well, I enjoy play piano, but the problem is its size, besides I can't carry it with me to other sites xD... that's why I like the keyboard, it's the solution to all my problems xD

Wow, my life would be sad and boring without the keyboard, because I really love play piano, but it’s complicated when for example I must travel =(, I can't move it xD...so the keyboard is a good alternative =D

My favourite food!

One of my favourites dishes ever is the smashed potato cake, it includes potato, obiously, meat, onions, olives, eggs and spices. It's veeery tasty and one of the things i like the most is that i eat it only in a few ocations... i usually eat noddles with meat sauce or something easy to cook like that.
I like this food very much, but i don't know it's origins... i searched for it, but i could not find something right, some places said it was invented in Perú, in the Andes area, other said it was an argentienian plate, and other said it a chilean traditional dish, so i really dont' know where it came from.
But it doesn't mater, it's tasty anyway... but a little long to prepare:
- First, you have to boil the potatoes
- then, you have to smashe them
- you have to prepare "pino" separatedly: it's ground meat mixed with chopped onions
- and you put two to three eggs to boil, when they are ready, you cut them in a few pieces.
- those are the main ingedients, in a fount, you put part of the smashed potatoes, then, you put the "pino".
- and you put the pieces of boiled egg here and there
- you can add spices too... as many as you like (salt, pepper, merken - whic is a kind of chili, very tasty-, paprika, and others)
- you put the rest of the smashed potatoes over the "pino"... and the result is three "layers": smashed potato - pino - smashed potato
- when the dish is armed, you put it on the oven and wait about 20 minutes... and you have a delicious food =D!!!

David Clarke =D

Hi!!

Today I wanna speak you about the archaeologist who I admire. First, I must to say that to decide who is he...was very difficult, because I think there are many archeologists that have done important contributions to the discipline.

Well, I would like present to you to David Clarke, who was driver of "processual archaeology" or "New archaeology" in Europe (it was caracterized by to attemp to rebuild cultural processes).
He born in 1937 in England, and died in 1976. This archeologist studied at Peterhouse, Cambridge, where he was archaeology's teacher years later (information from wikipedia).
David Clarke is an important archaeologist because he introduced the systems theory and quantifications in the application of archaeology, besides he said that the scientific reasoning is essential in this discipline. Due to the above, Clarke is considered the first processual archaeologist in Europe (in USA was Willey and Phillips). Finally, he is known for to say: "the archaeology is archaeology is archaeology" as opposed to what Willey and Phillips said: "the archaology is anthropology, or it is nothing".

This archaeologist likes me, because their contributions to archaeology allowed that years later arose news perspectives in the archaeology like the post-processual archaeology, which was suggested by a Clarke's student (his name is Ian Hodder).

Well, see you soon!
bye =D

Avatar wow!

Hi guys, well today i wanna tell you about the last movie that i saw, it was "Avatar", and i went to the cinema with a friend. I don´t remember very well the details of this movie, because i saw it in the summer, so i forgot it xD...

Emmm, well i don´t know the name of the actors that appears in the movie, but i can search them xD. The protagonists are Sam Worthingtnon, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang and Michelle Rodriguez (this information from wikipedia xD), i'd like tell you something more about them, but i don't know anything else =P . Not least is the director of the film, and his name is James Cameron (the same that directed Titanic, Terminator, and more and more xD).

In simple words, the movie show us a fictional future in where the humans can travel through the universe. This way, they found a planet called "Pandora", which it´s habited for a native population. The humans has conflicts with them, because the first begins to destroy the planet in order to get a natural resource (it is a natural element like oil). The protagonist is a human military that falls in love of one native of Pandora, and then he changes his thinking because understands the stile of life of Pandora's people and decides help them to expulse to humans of the planet.

This movie seemed me very nice, because it has action, drama and love xD. Besides, it shows a scenery so beatiful that hat I couldn't stop look at them over and over again xD. On the other hand, the topics of this film are similar with the anthropology, because it show us the contact between two civilizations completely different.

Well, i hope that you will like my brief critique xD, and see you soon n.n

My first earthquake o_o...and the last (hope so)

Hi everyone! i speak you about my experience's earthquake...

Well, the earthquake's night i was watching t.v (in the summer i go to sleep very late, and sometimes i don't sleep xD, but it isn't the point =P), and just at the moment it started I was watching a alien's attack movie...it was horrible because i thought: "Oh no!!!, the martians attacks us!!! o_o", and really scared me xD. After that, i realized it was a "simple" tremor; in this moment my fear was gone, but the movement became stronger...so I went to my parent's room (for awaken them ¬¬) and we went to a safe place. The next day we had not telephone nor electricity, but they came back soon, and fortunately our family was well.

I was very surprise for the effects of the earthquake, and for this reason i tried to help as best i could...(i was gathering food and clothes and other activities).

Emm, i'm 100% sure that is a experiencie that i hope it will not happen again x_x, but if it will occurs again i learned how i must react, and besides how i can help other persons...

I hope that nothing bad had happened you, and see you soon!

Hi! =)

Hi guys!

I'm Sonia and it's page was created with the follow object: I'm a student of archeology and I want to speak you about my discipline and my interests.

Well, I love the archaeology since I was a little girl, for this reason I was very happy when I entered to University to study anthropology. The archaelogy is a subdiscipline of anthropology. We study the past population's culture through the things that the past people deposited, therefore we must do many fieldworks (and it's the better part of our job xD).

I hope tell you many other things,
and see you later!
